I <3 Florida!

Pink Flamingos

Why, you ask? Here are a few reasons I love Florida:

1. It’s a flip-flop kind of life…

Today, for the second day in a row, I drove around with a small stack of résumés all neatly prepared and stapled (because my legal résumé is two pages these days…) and ready to go. I was worried about what to wear – should I dress all business-like to impress potential employers, or would that just seem stiff and pretentious?

Yes, I know the whole “Dress for the job you want” thing, but wearing a suit isn’t the most comfortable option. I didn’t have to worry. I wore a skirt, sleeveless shirt and a light sweater yesterday, and a blue shirt and slacks today. Both days I was dressed better than anyone I saw in the offices. Even in the fancy glass building, the receptionist/paralegal looked like she had just walked across from Walmart.

But my absolute favorite was walking into an office where the lawyer was barefoot. Yes, you read that right. He was kind of younger looking, and nobody else was in the office.

I thought it would feel kind of awkward walking into law offices and handing people my résumé, but it really didn’t. At least not here… It probably would have in New York or Atlanta.

2. Flowers, flowers everywhere. Even in winter. Outside, growing all by themselves, popping up out of nowhere.

Fairy flowers?
Blue tropical flowers
I found these on the ground, where they had fallen off a bush.

Orange flowers

Flowers with snails
Bonus: snails!

3. Critters, critters everywhere! We have very interesting bugs, frogs, lizards and snakes. (I haven’t seen a snake in years, but we have them.)

Let’s face it, Florida is a photographer’s paradise. Now, if only we could do something about those mosquitoes.

Glad to oblige!
